Jeep Commercial, Editing and Moulin Rouge

Jeep Commercial:

Rhythm:
It was really fast and in time with the song, fast and upbeat.

Editing:
It had a linear feel because it opened with a sunrise and ended with a sun down. In the middle the shots flicked to times all through out the day. When you have a jeep, you will always have a good time.

Graphic Matches:
Flash backs to the party scene and when the people are driving but it flicks to different people at different times of the day.

Editing:

An innocent character is stalked by a werewolf: slow edits: creates suspense so you can’t see what is happening entirely.

A character confesses their horrific crime to someone: close ups and slow edits: to see all the emotions and understand whats happening.

Two teams compete in the finals of a street dance competition: fast cut shot: its gives the feeling of adrenaline and shows the audience everything thats happening.

A high speed car chase ends in tragedy: fast then ends in slow motion: to show the tragedy so everyone can see the damage and emphasis the accident.

Moulin Rouge:

lots of fading shots
fast camera movement
slow shots at the start
off colour- black and white/ sepia
dark lighting
slow motion
medium close ups
close ups
bright colours
faster shots
still shot
side lighting
blue, red light
high camera angles
graphic matches

Genre Recipe Activity

Making, a genre movie is like baking, a favourite cake. You get hold of the recipe, find out the ingredients, and mix them all together. If you want to be sure that everyone enjoys it, don't change the recipe too much ; you might add a few extra cherries or a dash of something, just to make it slightly different, but  you're not going to risk making any major or changes to what has always worked in the past.
Recipe for one 8 inch FRUIT CAKE
Ingredients
6 oz soft margarine
6 oz soft brown sugar
3 eggs
1 tablespoon black treacle
4 oz glace cherries 4 oz sultanas
4 oz raisins
8 oz self-raising flour
1 teaspoon mixed spice
Instructions/Method
Grease a deep (8 inch) round cake tin and line the base and sides with a double layer of greased greaseproof paper. Place all the Ingredients in the mixer bowl and beat on slowest speed until combined. Increase to medium speed and beat for 30 seconds. Turn into the cake tin and place in a preheated moderate oven, gas mark 3, for 1 1/2 to 13/4 hours, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Leave in the tin for five minutes, then turn onto a wire rack to cool.
If you're going to make a genre movie, you also need to follow a recipe. You have to use the right ingredients, and you have to mix them up correctly. Unfortunately, there aren't any Jamie Oliver, or Masterchef genre recipe books available which list the exact ingredients needed to make a Western, Horror or Disaster movie etc; so film-makers, producers, directors and writers have to rely on their knowledge of similar films which have been made in the past.
On the left-hand side, list the essential ingredients of a particular genre.
On the right-hand side, explain how they should all be put
together – in other words, describe the typical rules for the PLOT.

Recipe for one Private Investigator Film
Ingredients
1 private detective (private eye)
1 raincoat (collar turned up)
1 hat (for shielding eyes)
1 dingy private eye's office
1 hand-gun
1 beautiful and mysterious woman
1 female night-club singer
1 fat and ruthless nightclub owner
2 ugly henchmen
1 weary police officer
several corpses
several large (black) cars
1 busy and unfriendly city several flashing neon signs
1 skyscraper rooftop
1 deserted house
Instructions/Method
Take one beautiful and mysterious woman, make her turn up unexpectedly at the private eye’s office, in deep trouble and then make her disappear. While trying to find out what her problem is, make the private eye find a corpse, and have him get the blame for it. Now make him try to clear his name and arrange it so that his investigations lead him to a smoky basement nightclub. Make sure that he gets involved with a glamorous and tragic singer, who gets murdered. Now make him confront the crooked nightclub owner, whose henchmen beat him up and lock him up in a deserted house, miles from anywhere. After a certain amount of bloodshed, let him escape. He should discover that the beautiful and mysterious woman is involved with the nightclub owner – but it should turn out that this is not her fault (perhaps she is being blackmailed, or her father has been kidnapped). Let the private eye find out what has been going on, kill the nightclub owner, rescue the girl, solve her problems, and – if you want a happy ending – you'd better make sure that they fall in love.

Media Arts: The Cheshire Cat

This character is a mysterious and calm cat. The cat shows this in the way he speaks and moves; that is why I feel how I do about this character. When the cat speaks, especially to Alice, his words come out slowly and at a low tone. Also he is the colour purple. This helps the calm effect because it is a cool, calm colour. This is what lead me to believe that the cat was calm.

What lead me to believe that the Cheshire cat was mysterious, was the fact that he was floating and disappearing and reappearing. During this action, invisible editing was being used with cut shots. When he kept disappearing, he would sort of twist out then come up somewhere else. This lead me to believe that he was a mysterious creature.

Editing

Putting all of the films into imovie was easy, and so was putting it together. For some, we had to shorten them because they were too long. For all of the videos, we had to mute them and turn them to black and white to add the effect that we wanted. For the last 2 shots, we wanted to add different transitions. The first transition we wanted to add was a fade to create a fade shot. This was aproblem because we couldn't find the transition we wanted. To fix this problem, we went out and asked a different person and that helped us. The second effect that we wanted to add, was slow motion. We added this because it adds suspense and more excitement then just a plain panning shot. To end the entire movie, we added a fade to white just to get the message across that it was a happy ending and to make it softer, so it didn't end so suddenly.

Filming in the Boarding House

When we filmed in the boarding house, it took about 4 goes to get the shot right. In the first shot, the lighting was in the wrong spot, for shots 2 and 3, we didn't like the angles and we liked shot 4, which was a panning shot. This was only for 1 of the 2 shots we needed to take. The second shot, we got it on the 2nd go. The 1st time, it was the wrong angle but the second one was good.

Second lesson of Project- Filming

Today we started filming. Portia was away so it was just Carrington and I. We went and collected the props we needed and collected the camera and tripod. Carrington and I set up the camera for each of our shots in the correct place and shot what we needed. For some shots, we re-shot them in different angles to see what it looks like and see if it looks better. We changed about 2 shots because the second time we did it, it looked better. In this lesson, we got about 3/4 of our filming done; the rest we will do in the boarding house.

First lesson of Project

On the first lesson, my group and I story boarded everything. We chose different shots, angles and lighting. This took us the entire lesson.
