Reflection
We have finally finished filming and are now up to editing and post production. We are all sitting together and helping to choose the correct shots. Filming went smoothly although sometimes the camera we needed was not available so we had to improvise and use a different camera that did a smilier job. This worked for us and we finished the filming process with a good amount of time to edit. We are going to create an EDL once we have all the shots we need. We are going to split up the jobs and do ur bit then join it all together.

MUSIC VIDEO CLIP TREATMENT
|
|
|
Names of group members |
Oliva, Alex, Portia & Tilly |
|
Song selected |
Pop State of Mind 2014 (40 Song Mashup) - DJ Dreamport (Our Party) |
|
Type of clip (Highlight your choice/s) performance / narrative / collage Concept for clip Explain what narrative/images the clip will contain |
performance. concept is that we are each playing a different celebrity and are going to mimic their different video clips, but have heaps of singers and different music videos mashed into one. |
|
Message What message will your clip contain or what is its purpose? Style What look and feel will your clip have? |
the message that we are trying to convey is that not everything has to make sense and have a point, which is evident in our song choice. we want to achieve a free and interesting type of feel to our clip, and want it to look really entertaining so no one gets bored. |
|
Technical codes Explain the ideas you have about camera work, transition devices, lighting, special effects, framing and composition |
we really need to focus on having interesting and entertaining transitions so we are coming up with a range of different transitions. For example, an idea we have come up with is zooming the camera up on someone’s eye then zoom out of a different person’s eye. |
|
Audio codes What is the song about and how do the lyrics relate to the visuals you have selected? Will you be adding an additional sound? |
the song doesn't really make sense because it is a mashup of heaps of different songs, but the different songs used will relate to the singers specific music video for their songs. |
|
Pace What sort of pace does your song have and how will this be reflected and created in your clip? Written codes If you are using any written codes, what text will you use? What is its significance? Symbolic codes Will there be any symbols in your clip and what will they be? Will you repeat any images or use a motif? How will the symbolism you have used contribute to the message of your clip? |
the pace of our video clip is quite fast, but towards the start and end slows down. This will be reflected in the quick edits we will use. |
|
Key elements of mise-en-scene to be used Explain the settings needed and outline key props and costumes needed |
For settings we are using the green screen so we can capture almost the exact backgrounds as the music videos. Key props and costumes are just the different clothes. For me a main one was paint to paint my face to look like lady gaga. |
|
Appeal What things in your clip do you think will appeal to a youth audience? |
the fact that we are using multiple popular songs and many well known celebrities makes our video clip appeal to a youth audience. |

First lesson of term 4
The first lesson of term 4, my group and I finalised our idea and started planning. We spoke to Mr Andrews about it and he likes the idea but says we have to take it to the next level by looking into our transitions. Our idea is that we want to mimic heaps of music videos and put it to a mash up of different songs. This is going to take a while to create as there are lots of costumes and makeup but to make life easier, we are planning on using the green screen for every background. We will also be using animationish to show that we can use a variety of techniques. We looked at this website: http://myartspiration.com/category/film-media/page/2/ for inspiration for the transitions and how to make them interesting instead of boring and plain cuts.

Self-reflection and evaluation
Year 10 Creative Media Short Film Production – Term 03 Mr Andrews
Task 4 Post-production: Self-reflection and evaluation:
Overall, I am very happy with the final result. The editing part of the assignment took longer than I originally thought. If I could re-do the project, I would change the some parts of the music. Mainly because of the small selection there was, and if I had more time, I would lookout side of garage band and onto youtube for more choices.
My final film was not exactly the same as I imagined, but it was close to it. I believe that my film clearly depicts the intended style. This is because we have clear elements of film noir such as the use of the blinds shadow, the flashbacks and the mystery. Also I used slow motion to create a more film noir affect as well.
We had more than enough shots to complete the film, as I didn’t use all of them. I think reshooting would have been helpful, mail because some of the lighting was a bit different in shots that were supposed to be the same sort of thing.
Our group worked really well together. We each took on different jobs to get what was need to be done, done. We each had an equal amount of work to do so that know one was left doing more than they should be.
I believe that I used Final Cut Pro X to effectively organise my project. I used different events just like I would use folders. I renamed them to organise my different scenes. For future projects, I will try and expand my knowledge of the software. I know that there are plenty more things that I have yet to learn about it that are going to be very useful in future projects.
The main problem I encounter during the post-production and editing process, was my slow USB. I bought one from the bookshop and it proved to be very slow which made my editing a bit hard because it was really jerky. To fox this problem, I brought in my hard drive and put all of my media work onto that, and that made it 100 times easier as it was so much faster, and I didn’t have to worry about running out of room.
Our main asset was using a shot-list while shooting the rough edit. This made it so much easier to know exactly what had to be done. Yes, it took a while to write it all out, but it was defiantly worth it in the end. It also saved us heaps of time by knowing what had to be done.
I used the EDL template and this proved to be very helpful. I used it to my advantage, by figuring out what shot I wanted, and how long for. This made my editing so much easier as all I had to do, was cut and drag the right shots into the order that I wanted.
Our group was pretty well organised throughout the entire process of making our film, but sometimes we would relies that we needed more time. To fix this, we did work outside of school to shoot a couple of shots, and to record the voice overs.
I believe that I could have posted more reflections on my blog. The main reason I didn’t do this enough, was because I forgot. I know that we had been reminded over and over but I still forgot. I do however, believe that I have enough stuff on there for the terms work. There might not be an antiquate amount of reflections, but I did but up photos of inspiration and spoke about the processes that we were taking to finish our film, that we are now very happy with.
